Missy hopes that the Small Dog Lifesavers site will generate interest for folks to adopt both pedigrees and non-pedigrees locally in Southern California and anywhere there is a need. Some of our links are local California rescues and others are national rescues. Contact Missy for more information.

Save A Life! The Amanda Foundation was founded in 1976 and has since placed thousands of homeless animals. It is a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs and cats who, through no fault of their own, are spending their last days at City and County Shelters.
When rescuing animals from the pound, Amanda volunteers can never leave with a happy heart. Due to a lack of funds, for every orphan we adopt, we must leave many more behind to face an unnecessary death. Their faces haunt us for days and months to come. We choose not only the purebreds who are readily adoptable, but also the older ones, the shy and battered ones, the mothers nursing their litters, the ones whose eyes tell us they have no chance.
Senior Rescues: The rescue of an older animal is more often than not a revelation. In many cases the pet who has become resigned to his fate turns out to be leash trained, housebroken and most important, already spayed or neutered. He obviously has fond memories of having at one time belonged to a caring guardian, and once removed from the anonymity of the pound, he is readily placeable.
Animal Match Rescue Team is dedicated to facilitating adoption of shelter and rescue pets in the Southern California area. We believe there are a lot of pets euthanized in shelters while there are potential pet owners looking to adopt and cannot find them. The goal of the creators of this web site is to assist potential pet owners in finding a shelter or rescued pet.
Dogs Without Borders is a non profit 501-c-3 rescue organization which relies soley on foster homes. If you are interested in fostering, please send us a line. the more foster homes we have, the more dogs we can rescue. We currently rescue most dogs from local shelters and strays, but sometimes we rescue dogs from as far away as Taiwan! We believe a dog is a dog no matter where it's from. Some of the dogs you see on our site on not here in the States. If there is enough interest, we will help transport the dog using volunteer travelers. All foreign dogs are in good health, up to date on shots, and quarrantined. If you are interersted in one of our sponsored foreign dogs, let us know and we will have it here in no-time. There is absolutely no obligation to adopt the dog once it traveled here.

Helen Woodward Animal Center is a unique non-profit organization in San Diego County that for over 30 years has been committed to the philosophy of people helping animals and animals helping people.
At Helen Woodward Animal Center, people help animals and animals help people. Under one management, this unique organization benefits the community by providing educational and therapeutic programs for people, and humane care and adoption for animals. Life is more precious when trust, unconditional love, and respect exist between animals and one another.
H.A.R.T. (Humane Animal Rescue Team) is a non-profit organization devoted to rescuing senior dogs from senior individuals who have become too ill to take care of the dog, have to go into a retirement home, or have passed away. The H.A.R.T. sanctuary can take in 50 dogs at a time, and has an 80% success rate in adopting out dogs to loving families. Their adoption policy is strict, screening prospective adopters very carefully, performing a house check, and carefully matching the right dog to the right family.
H.A.R.T. takes on the very tough cases, and depends on donations as well as people to adopt and foster their seniors and special needs dogs. If you are interested in adoption of a senior dog or a long-term foster arrangement, H.A.R.T. may be able to absorb all associated veterinarian costs during the dog's lifetime. Of course, donations are also most welcome. Email Petbusy@aol.com.
The Little Bow Wow Rescue was founded by Vicki Stone in May of 2002. We are a 501(c)(3) non- profit organization, passionately dedicated to rescuing small dogs of all types and breeds. We rescue dogs from shelters, and take in other dogs in need. Some are strays whose owners cannot be located, some are abandoned, and some are turned over to us by their owners.
When Vicki started this rescue, she envisioned a high quality rescue, with a personal touch and an emphasis first and foremost on the welfare of the dogs. She wanted these dogs to receive the best possible care and be provided with what ever was necessary to make them healthy and happy again, or in some cases, healthy and happy for the first time in their lives.
Little Bow Wow's dogs are fostered in our homes and provided with a safe, clean environment, beds and blankets, brand name dog foods, top notch veterinary care, friends to play with, toys, treats and of most of all, plenty of TLC. We are considered a "small" rescue because we only take in as many dogs as we feel we can provide with individual attention, on a daily basis. We feel that it is important to know the personalities, and habits of our foster dogs, so that we can find them the best possible homes.
Our adoption process begins with a phone interview and possibly, a home check. If we feel that there is a potential match, an appointment is scheduled to meet the dog.

Little Dog Rescue is primarily a Maltese Rescue, a Poodle Rescue and a Yorkie Rescue ( although we do take other breeds and mixes). Located in Orange County, CA. Although we consider ourselves a classic "Mom and Pop" operation, the government classifies us as a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization.
We are a retired couple who, after 10 years of raising Guide Dogs for the visually impaired, have decided to rescue small dogs instead. We love dogs and we love to see them enhance a life.
Our goals are two-fold. First, we want to save shelter dogs and secondly, we want your life to be improved by matching a wonderful dog to a safe, loving and caring family. No one should have to live without a furry little friend, when there are so many of these little munchkins needing loving homes.
Malibu Dog Adoptions (formerly in partnership with Malibu Pet Companions) is a community based, non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from shelters, the streets and abusive situations and placing them in new, loving homes in the Malibu and Greater Los Angeles area. (Not just "small dogs" but if you check their site you may find a small terrier breed.)
We are a small group of volunteers in the Orange County and LA County area who focus on rescuing dogs in need and placing them into appropriate homes. All of our pets are altered and vaccinated and have had a temperament evaluation to help us determine what type of home (s) they would do best in.
Pups and Pals rescues primarily dogs although we have been known to take an occasional cat, hamster or bird. We rescue them from pounds as well as take in owner surrenders as space permits. Each dog receives and exam and treatment as well as vaccinations and deworming. We also spay or neuter each pet prior to adoption to assist in the fight against pet overpopulation.
Seal Beach Animal Care Center is a non-profit animal shelter formed in 1986 to provide a safe haven for the dogs and cats lost within our city limits. Our staff of valued volunteers ensures the animals in our care are kept as comfortable as possible until they can be placed in new adoptive homes.
Our new YappyHappy dog tag not only looks cool, they're more functional than ordinary dog tags.
